Ann C. Kearney, who served the Catechetical Office for more than twenty years, died on April 14 in her 92nd year of life.
A woman of many talents, she achieved prominence in the business world as corporate assistant secretary for International Operations at International Paper Company. This was at a time when women executives were few and far between. After retiring from this position, she became assistant to Sr. Joan Curtin, CND, director of the Archdiocesan Catechetical Office. She was the first recipient of the Catechetical Medal of Honor for her vital role in the development of the Guidelines for Catechesis, both volumes. Miss. Kearney then became chaplain of the Cabrini Nursing Home in lower Manhattan. She returned to the Catechetical Office in her later years as a financial consultant.
Ann Kearney was a devoted volunteer and advisor at her parish church, Immaculate Conception Manhattan, for more than 40 years. In addition to coordinating the ministries of lector and extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, she served as a parish trustees. Miss Kearney was an associate of the Congregation of Notre Dame and a Lady Commander in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 23, at Immaculate Conception Church, Manhattan.
Her colleagues in the regions and in the central offices of the Catechetical Office will miss her.
